Plans unveiled for saving old church
By JOURNAL STAFF

SEATTLE — Details of a plan to save the First United Methodist Church sanctuary in downtown Seattle will be unveiled at 10 a.m. briefing at the church on Wednesday.

The announcement marks the end of a 20-year effort to find an appropriate reuse of the 1908 building, located at 811 Fifth Ave.

Developer Nitze-Stagen will preserve the domed brick and terra-cotta sanctuary and develop an office tower next to it. A preliminary massing study by the architect, Zimmer Gunsul Frasca, will be on display, showing what the mass of the tower may look like.
